There is no more denying it, the warm weather and long days of summer are gone. Winter is upon us and with that comes the temptation to bundle up in a blanket on the sofa and marathon watch some of your favorite series on Netflix. The problem with this is when the next swimsuit season rolls around, your left looking like couch potatoes. Add all the holiday food and celebrations on top of this and we have a recipe for disaster. If you don’t want to fall into this trap, here are some things to try over the next handful of months until the sun comes out and you can enjoy the outdoors again.
Make Exercising Fun
A lot of people see working out and exercising as a chore or task. While the summer months make it a lot easier to get out and active, it’s not nearly as fun to go to the park when you have to bundle up like you’re visiting the North Pole. If you can find some activities that you enjoy like playing basketball, swimming, or another sport; look for intramural or adult leagues in your area. Usually local rec centers have information on all these activities.
Do Nontraditional Exercise
You might be the kind of person who is used to running five to ten miles every day in the warm months but can’t enjoy running indoors on a track or treadmill. If you just can’t get excited about exercising indoors, try doing something different. Give yoga or Pilates a try. A lot of people, men especially, don’t realize how well of a workout yoga and Pilates are. When done right, they will really compliment the rest of your workout, so give it a shot.
